Our Matchup Stats | & Game Day Preview

Neither team will likely make it to the NCAA Tournament, but NIT is still in play.

The Beavers finished 17-13, including 7-11 in conference play, and a BetOnline.com review of their season would show that they started out with an overtime win over Texas and a two-point loss to Vanderbilt, who were ranked at the time, but they opened Pac-12 play with two straight losses and then dropped five of their last seven, although wins against Utah and Colorado offer some encouragement before the conference tourney tips off.

Jared Cunningham topped the Pac-12 in scoring and steals and has the ability to take over games, but players that buy betting software know he needs some help, which could come in the form of Ahmad Starks, who caught fire late in the season.

The Beavers are ninth in the nation in scoring, but they can’t stop anyone and that’s an issue come tournament time.

Beavers vs. Cougars

Pac 12 Tournament time - WSU plays OSU Wednesday

The Washington State Cougars were 15-15 and also posted a 7-11 record in the Pac-12, and their signature win is probably a two-point victory at home over California in January, but that’s it. Brock Motum is a very good player and can put up double-doubles in scoring and rebounds, but he isn’t enough for the Cougars and it’s no guarantee that the supporting cast will pick up the pace at this time of year.

Marcus Capers has a lot of experience, but again, that’s not enough for Washington State, who is 58th in field-goal percentage, but 173rd in points per game and that is what is keeping them out of this year’s March Madness spreads.

Oregon State comes into this meeting as a 4.5-point favorite, but beware of the Cougars, who have won four in a row against the Beavers, including both meetings from this season, an 81-76 victory at home and an 83-73 win on the road.

The Beavers had no idea how to handle Motum, who averaged 25 points per game in those two games and that is a good place to start if they’re going to break this Washington State hex. They have more talent, but their shaky defense has held them back and it could be an issue again on Wednesday.

It’s rare that a team will beat another three times in a season, and while Washington State will have plenty of confidence going into the Staples Center, the Beavers will jump at the chance to get a win in the most important clash of the season between the two.
